Day-Dreaming.
I often find myself imagining crossing the Sahara.
The more time passes, the more this idea grows in my heart too.
It's funny how my spiritual awakening preceded deep inner work that brought me back to where it began: my ancestors. And the more I dig into myself, into my lineage, the more the Sahara calls me.
I look at the map and I day dream of crossing like in the ancient days, with camels, a handful of trusted and knowledgeable people, the wind and the land as allies.
The more I look into the traditions of my ancestors, the more what I do makes sense. In the Amazigh tradition, the women were divinators, healers and communed with the world of Spirits and of Djinns. It is surprising me less and less that I have natural propensions to connect to the underworld, to the Spirit world, to the elements.
My ancestors did too. They honoured the wind as the Sacred Breath: life-moving, spirit carrying, just like it carries and moves the desert.
Fire took root in you as your vital force, inner power that moves and charges your soul.
Earth, worshiped as Womb of the Mother and made of all our ancestors, reminded us of our roots. Earth mapped out how to be grounded no matter where we went.
And the Water, feminine guardian energy would always cleans our minds, bodies and spirit.
We worshiped the stars and the rocks as family. We sang poetry to the moon and were the guardians of creation and creativity.
I day dream about walking the walk through the Sahara and maybe meeting the women along the way that will undoubtedly remind me of my deep roots. It awakens the little girl in me that would marvel at artifacts and spend hours on documentaries and books on ancient cultures, on adventures and resilience. Since the very beginning, the compass was pointed to something that France could never give me, that Australia is trying to safeguard and that Tunisia has forgotten.
I day dream and I scheme...
